Coach and tournament creator, Jason Chatham, wanted the Veterans Invitational brand to represent three things: community, commitment, and iconic baseball nostalgia. This annual tournament, named after Chatham's grandfather, Jack Matthews, and played at the Napa Vets Home honors of U.S. veterans, which needed to be recognized as well.
I pulled typographic samples from the baseball world along with elements from classic U.S. iconography to design a logo and visual system for the tournament. I also designed several more branding and event materials to grow the brand's scale.
I started by designing an extensive logo package and then created an additional set of graphics that could be applied to social media content, apparel, event signage, and other brand materials.
With apparel, banners, and a strategy to build a strong online presence we aimed to get people excited about this event by transporting them to the baseball field.
Located within the grounds of the Veterans Home in Napa, CA with a serene backdrop of vineyards rolling out into the distance, the popping of leather mitts echoes across the field, and the smell of baseball fills the air.
Veteran residents fill the seats behind home plate while siblings, parents, and friends from all generations fill the rest of the stadium.
At this tournament, whether you're a player competing for the win, a coach watching their players give it their best, or a parent enjoying future memories of and with their kids, it's a place where dreams come true." (Field of Dreams)
